The first revision of Guarda's Local Housing Strategy was approved last Monday, 11 September, and provides for the rehabilitation of 74 properties for social housing, for which an investment of 22 million euros has been allocated until 2062. In this context, Sérgio Costa, the Mayor of Guarda, explained that this new version is the result of "adapting to the new reality" of the document, which was previously approved in 2021.

The mayor explains: "We revisited all the statistical data after the 2021 censuses and introduced a lot more of what was planned. And after having consulted all the parish councils, IPSS [Private Social Solidarity Institutions] and even the Diocese of Guarda (...) 74 properties were identified, 36 of which belong to the municipality and 38 to parish councils and the third sector".

Most of the properties are located in Guarda's historic centre, providing accommodation for around 100 households, a total of 400 people, and the Mayor stresses: "it's a very big challenge. But it's very important for us to be able to rehabilitate these properties, giving a clear signal that we're also committed to social housing. It will now have to go to the Municipal Assembly [ELH] so that we can make our way through and all the organisations can make the necessary applications".

This is a project included in the 1st Right Programme, supported by the PRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan).
