The new branch, located in the British town of Shropshire, is powered by solar panels and on-site wind turbines. The building is also insulated with British sheep's wool and clad in recycled Information Technology (IT) equipment.
This new project is recognized as the first restaurant to meet the UK Green Building Council's (UKGBC) net zero carbon building framework.
McDonald's spokeswoman Beth Hart says the Market Drayton restaurant, which opened its doors on December 10 and will operate as a model for future new facilities.
The chain aims to make all new facilities zero carbon by 2030, improving its existing 1,400 branches in the UK and Ireland.
