Considered one of the main locations of the Interior Centre of Portugal,
this is a city that you can get to know because of its proximity to
Serra da Estrela. For those who love destinations with natural
landscapes, Guarda will certainly be the ideal programme for a weekend
in contact with nature. There are several places you can visit, but we
highlight the
Municipal Theatre of Guarda, the Regional Museum and the Cathedral of Guarda, where you can visit the terraces and enjoy the wonderful view over the city.
Filled with traces of the Jewish presence,
Guarda
will take you on a trip back in time, especially if you visit the
Jewish quarter which is located within the city walls. However, if you
prefer a more direct contact with city life, we suggest a walk in Praça
Luís de Camões, or the old Praça Velha.
Another attraction of
Guarda is the Rodrigo Castle, another ex-libris of the cultural and
historical heritage of the region. However, if you want an even more
in-depth tour, you can always choose to go to one of the many historical
villages in the region, such as
Linhares da Beira, Castelo Mendo or
Sortelha.
For
those looking for a place of gastronomic discovery, Guarda can also
provide that experience, especially if you try the typical sausages of
the region, the wild boar with beans or the traditional codfish.
