It was this Monday, during the signing ceremony of the pacts between Adene and the Confederation of Commerce and Services (CCP), the Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP) and the Portuguese Association of Shopping Centres (APCC), that João Galamba, Secretary of State for Environment and Energy, said that it is planned that part of the REPowerEU plan's funds will be allocated to energy efficiency, namely to make Europe independent from Russian fossil fuels. This would increase the economic autonomy of the European Union, whose dependencies on Russian energy are causing significant increases in energy values.
João Galamba says that "the Government will continue to invest in the area of energy efficiency, not only through plans like this one, but also with the support, be it from the PRR [Recovery and Resilience Plan], or through the Environmental Fund, or the REPowerEU [...] We will take more initiatives, it is not yet closed, but there will be new notices for the area of energy efficiency".
In order to follow up on this measure, Galamba explains that it involves the creation of a follow-up commission to monitor the implementation of what has been agreed and, already next year, Adene has on its agenda the launch of a campaign directed at citizens.
Currently, there are compulsory measures in place for the Public Administration, which include energy and water saving, and voluntary measures for the remaining sectors.
