According to the
Aveiro City Council and Turismo Centro de Portugal,
Aveiro will have reached record values in terms of tourism in the region during 2022. Specifically, overnight stays increased by 8.6% compared to 2019, and visits to museums and tourist spaces rose by 1.9% compared to 2022. These are record numbers, and are already higher than those verified in the pre-pandemic period.
According to the Mayor of Aveiro, Ribau Esteves, "these numbers are the result of a strategic and lasting work of Central Portugal Tourism, of the Aveiro City Hall, but mainly of citizens and companies, which have been offering each year more and better services to those who visit us, whether Portuguese or foreigners".
For all this, the mayor underlines the importance of "the municipality's investments" in segments such as environment and culture, in order to promote these results in tourism, and stresses that, at the management level, "maritime-tourist operations, of the tourist trains, of the relationship with the businessmen of the sector, as well as the capacity of the City Hall to execute urban qualification works" are being carried out.
