The violent earthquake of 1755 destroyed the parish church, promptly rebuilt. In the urban complex stands out the Casa Viscountess dos Olivais, located on one of the tops of the square, a building of considerable dimensions, with four gates on the ground floor and nine windows of balcony with iron rods on the upper floor. This building, dating from 1866, was acquired by D. Maria Rosa da Veiga Araújo, Viscountess dos Olivais, who founded in 1896 an asylum for poor children. Currently, a day care center and kindergarten, belonging to the D. Pedro IV Foundation, is located on site. The center of the square, outlined by a cobbled rectangle, with trees, was being used, over time, for the recreational activities of the neighborhood. In 1896, a cast iron bandstand was erected, based on a brick base, where the Union Philharmonic Society and Capricho Olivalense, established in 1886, held concerts.
