According to the Bank of Portugal, the average interest rate on new loans has not been this high since October 2015. On Thursday, 3 November, it reached 2.23 percent (0.22 percent more than in August), which is a record high for the last seven years.
In a statement, the banking entity released data relating to loans granted in the month of September, obtaining a total of 2,006 million euros for individuals, figures higher than the previous month.
In terms of loans other than those for home loans, the figure stood at around 467 million euros, broken down into 1,338 million in home loans granted, 467 million in consumer credit (granted) and 201 million in loans for other purposes.
Around 87% of home loans granted were indexed to 6 or 12 month Euribor rates.
In short, September was the month with the highest figures, both in terms of amount and number of loans granted.
