The first floor, originally used for agricultural premises, now has a large entrance hall with a floor made of large original stone slabs, which divides the space - to the right there is a small prayer area (already remodeled), a room flanked by stone arches that leads to various rooms (most with private bathrooms). To the left of the entrance hall is the imposing staircase leading to the upper floor, plus an area of huge suites (yet to be finished), an old wine press and access to the more technical area. The second floor, very well preserved, has solid wood floors, several living rooms (two with fireplaces) with coffered ceilings, a library, several bedrooms and bathrooms. On this floor there are two rooms that stand out: a room with diamond-tipped tiles from the first half of the 17th century, and the huge hall, which opens onto the former cells of the friars. Given its historical and heritage value, the property was classified as being of public interest in 1996. Most of this farmhouse is in a good state of repair, although there are some in the vicinity of the palace that need to be rebuilt. The side façades are marked by the arrangement of buttresses with pyramidal finials. The left side façade has a double-arched loggia on the upper floor, in the center of which a Serliano window has been opened. The estate also includes a dovecote and a leisure area by the River Nabão called Açude de Pedra. Quinta do Rocio has 17 ha of land area with a vineyard area of 15 ha. It contains an orchard and woodland. The wine tradition of Quinta do Rocio is unquestionably linked to the personality of Sebastião José de Carvalho, Viscount of Chanceleiros (1833-1905). The Viscount of Chanceleiros is known for the innovative agricultural techniques he brought to Portugal in order to save the countries vineyards that were being decimated by the disease phylloxera. He replanted with American rootstocks and in doing so earned a place in the history of Portuguese viticulture. Today Quinta do Rocio known by some as ’Sintra of Alenquer,’ because of its lush woods and it continues its tradition of great wine terroir of the region. Quinta do Rocio and the other plots herein considered encompass several buildings. All are in good condition. The property contains agricultural machinery and its own winery, which is divided in three areas: laboratory, production and ageing. Aside from buildings associated with the farming activity Quinta do Rocio holds one of the most historically significant houses (Images 1 and 2) of the region, which is known for its impressive architecture beautiful gardens and thick woodland.
