According to INE, the year-on-year variation rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 8.7% in June (8.0% in May), the highest value since December 1992.
The National Statistics Institute announced that the underlying inflation indicator, i.e. the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy products, is estimated to have recorded a change of 6.0% (5.6% in the previous month), representing the highest rate since May 1994.
The year-on-year rate of change of the energy products index is estimated at 31.7% (27.3% in the previous month), the highest value since August 1984, while the unprocessed foodstuffs index should have registered a change of 11.9% (11.6% in May).
Compared to the previous month, the change in the CPI should have been 0.8% (1.0% in May and 0.2% in June).
An average variation over the last twelve months is estimated at 4.1% (3.4% in the previous month).
The Portuguese Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) should have registered a year-on-year change of 9.0% (8.1% in the previous month).
