Bodiosa is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Viseu, with an area of 25.6 km² and 2840 inhabitants (2021 census). Its population density is 110.9 inhabitants/km². Morphologically, it is located in a valley, tending towards a plateau area in the northwest of the municipality, south of the Vouga River. 11 villages are part of the parish, including Aval. In historical terms, its settlement dates back to very ancient times, taking us to the Neo-Calcolithic period, as evidenced by traces found, namely the dolmens found here: Chã de Brancos, Pedra da Moura, Seixas, Torta, Vale da Cabra and Pedra D’Arca. The Suevi settled in this place between the 5th and 6th centuries and established the Spanish-Roman ’villas’, of an eminently rural character. The parish area belonged to the term of Viseu, which was subject to the passage of Christians and Muslims. This fact proves the importance that both sides attributed to the region, in the period between the 8th and 11th centuries. The name of the parish came from the Latin word ’Betulosa’. Bodiosa is served by Mobilidade Urbana de Viseu (MUV) lines 15, 18, and 20, and also by Empresa Guedes. It is served by the EN16 and A24 (at the exit for S. Pedro do Sul, take the EN16 towards ’S. Pedro do Sul’ and, after 200 meters, enter Bodiosa). Interested? Do you have any questions or are you curious to know any details?
