It's not long before the low temperatures begin to arrive, and with them the headaches of the electricity bills. We live in difficult times regarding energy consumption, aggravated by the tension in Europe. However, SUPERCASA has put together a set of tips to help you save on your monthly bill, making a list of the most economical and suitable types of heating for your needs. It is important, first of all, to understand the budget you have available and the insulation level of your home, in order to be able to offset the thermal expenses by using a cost-effective heating mode.

Before we talk to you about your options, take a look at the space you want to air-condition. Take into consideration the area where you live, the age of the property, whether it has well-sealed doors and windows and the type of dwelling. These are important factors which substantially influence energy consumption and can affect the type of system you will use on colder days. For example, if you live in the coastal north of the country, in a house where you want to air-condition a room with an area of 50m2, with windows and doors whose insulation is high and you have a budget of up to €300, we recommend using a fan heater or air-conditioning, as these are the most economical options. But in another situation, when you live, for example, in the coastal centre, in a house where you want to air-condition more than three rooms with areas around 20m2, without thermal insulation and a budget higher than 300 euros, the suggestion would be to install a salamander or fireplace. Therefore, several factors are important to take into account when purchasing the systems, which may also influence the number of people living in the house or how long it is kept closed, without heat loss.

#1 Air Conditioning
It is one of the most economical options, despite the installation and maintenance costs, and is not only used to heat the house in winter, but for annual air conditioning. However, for a use directed to low winter temperatures, we recommend the installation of Air Conditioning with heat pump, since, with this aerothermal technology, you'll be saving values around 30%.

#2 Oil Heater
It's the right option for smaller rooms, where heat retention is possible, and although it has the disadvantage of consuming electricity, you can choose to turn it on for a few minutes, wait for the room to heat up, and turn it off when you feel the climate control is at your liking. It works great for those looking for more practical systems.

#3 Fan Heater
Probably the most economical system on this list if you're looking for a one-off type of heating in a smaller area. They are even more practical than oil heaters, but probably not as cost effective in terms of heat received. The biggest advantage is the fact that you can easily transport them from one room to another.

#4 Convector
Convectors will be the middle option between oil heaters and fan heaters, as they have quiet characteristics and rapid spread of heat, plus the fact that they are lightweight and portable. The values of this heating system are also similar to the oil heater, but unlike the latter, convectors use water or gas in their thermoelectric system.

#5 Fireplace
They are the ideal option for those who want a cut in energy consumption, since they do not require connection to electricity. If your house already has a fireplace you will hardly have to spend any money, only on the raw materials needed for combustion - such as wood or other fuels. Generally, they don't have a great thermostatic range and can only heat the room where they are located, but besides working as a means of heating, they can also work as a decorative element. For design lovers there are bioethane fireplaces, which work in a more ecological way without emitting odours.

#6 Heat Recovery
Very similar to the traditional fireplace, but safer and more elegant because they have a door and a closed system, heat recoverers work more effectively for those who want the heating to reach more rooms. The disadvantage is the cost of the installation, which is higher than the fireplace, but they can work through wood, electric gas or pellets.

#7 Salamander
Still for those who are looking for a solution which provides heating at a wider range, in several spaces of the house, we have the salamanders. These are very similar to stoves, but, in aesthetic terms, they require a tube that goes up to the chimney so that there is heat diffusion and they work exclusively through firewood, which is the cleanest and most ecological energy nowadays.
