Esta construção, do século XX, alberga em clausura irmãs Clarissas que se dedicam à contemplação e aos trabalhos piedosos. De acordo com um apontamento de Carreiro da Costa o chá teria começado em São Miguel com a vinda por volta de 1820 de algumas sementes trazidas do Brasil por Jacinto Leite que as utilizavam numa propriedade sua, nas Calhetas.
