The availability of psychologists and nutritionists is evenly distributed across the country, and the number of vouchers will be reviewed at the end of this semester to adjust supply to demand. With anxiety being one of the major issues faced by many students, the aim of this measure is to facilitate access to psychological services and serve as a complementary response to the National Health Service. The voucher request can be made at the respective university through the Social Action Services. Subsequently, students can choose a professional from the list that will be published on the e-Portugal website. The support is intended for young students in public and private higher education who need it. The requirements are as follows: university students who have recurrent episodes of anxiety or depression; who have relational difficulties, grief, anxiety due to moving cities, the end of a relationship, divorce; doubts or issues related to vocation and career; and physical and chronic illnesses that affect mental health. However, this measure does not apply to higher education students who have had mental health problems for more than a year and a half; who use substances or have problems arising from it; have been diagnosed with psychotic, bipolar, or personality disorders; have attempted suicide; or need special education. Regarding the nutritionist voucher, it is known that one of the current major problems is the consumption of sugar and alcohol, so this measure is intended to complement the lack of response from the NHS. The study analysed students who came for periods of less than a year between the 2013/2014 and 2019/2020 academic years. According to the analysis, the number has grown by 46% in the last eight years, but there are regional asymmetries, with fewer international mobile students identified in higher education institutions further away from large urban centres. The research team points out that Portugal has experienced remarkable growth, fuelled by attributes such as quality education, security, multiculturalism, affordable living costs and political, economic and social stability. All of these criteria contributed to Portugal witnessing an increase in mobile students between 2013 and 2020, as Cláudia Seabra, a professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra (FLUC) and a researcher at the Centre for Geography and Spatial Planning Studies (CEGOT), points out. She adds: academic tourists in Portugal (i.e. students who are in the country for periods of less than 12 months) are predominantly from other European countries, including Spain, Italy, Poland and Germany, with 16 per cent, 12 per cent, 8 per cent and 7 per cent respectively. As for international students who have spent more than a year in Portugal, usually attending full cycles of studies, they come mainly from the countries of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Brazil is the country with the highest representation (38 per cent), followed by Cape Verde with 11 per cent, Angola with 10 per cent and Guinea-Bissau with 5 per cent of students.
