Each student will have access to 12 vouchers, equivalent to 12 consultations with a psychologist. During this academic year (2024-2025), the psychologist voucher will be awarded to 100,000 students ; the nutritionist voucher will be awarded to 50,000 students. The availability of psychologists and nutritionists is evenly distributed across the country, and the number of vouchers will be reviewed at the end of this semester to adjust supply to demand. With anxiety being one of the major issues faced by many students, the aim of this measure is to facilitate access to psychological services and serve as a complementary response to the National Health Service. The voucher request can be made at the respective university through the Social Action Services. Subsequently, students can choose a professional from the list that will be published on the e-Portugal website. The support is intended for young students in public and private higher education who need it. The requirements are as follows: university students who have recurrent episodes of anxiety or depression; who have relational difficulties, grief, anxiety due to moving cities, the end of a relationship, divorce; doubts or issues related to vocation and career; and physical and chronic illnesses that affect mental health. However, this measure does not apply to higher education students who have had mental health problems for more than a year and a half; who use substances or have problems arising from it; have been diagnosed with psychotic, bipolar, or personality disorders; have attempted suicide; or need special education. Regarding the nutritionist voucher, it is known that one of the current major problems is the consumption of sugar and alcohol, so this measure is intended to complement the lack of response from the NHS. Each student can use 6 vouchers. Read more about: Higher education: Government strengthens support for accommodation.

Fonte: Adobe Stock Autor: Redação The back-to-school season is always a very special time, full of expectations and, sometimes, a bit of anxiety. With routines about to restart, preparing for this new chapter can be both fun and motivating if approached creatively. From organizing school supplies to planning the first few weeks, everything can be an opportunity to turn this return into an exciting experience. The key is to involve the whole family in the process, making it more enjoyable and meaningful. To ensure a smooth transition, start by setting a routine a few days before school begins. Adjusting sleep schedules and organizing a study space at home are important steps in creating an environment conducive to success. Making a detailed list of the needed supplies and choosing notebooks, backpacks, and accessories with favorite colors and themes can be a fun way to generate excitement about the return. By involving children in the preparation and choices, it increases their sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for tackling the new school year. Additionally, take this moment to reinforce the importance of balancing studies and leisure. Organize activities that combine fun and learning, such as visits to museums, family reading sessions, or creative challenges. In this way, returning to school is seen as a natural continuation of development rather than an interruption of fun. With careful preparation and a positive approach, going back to school becomes an adventure full of discoveries and new experiences, leaving everyone ready to embrace the new school year with energy and motivation.
Fonte: Adobe Stock Autor: Redação To help ease this process, we have prepared a guide for parents and guardians: Observe How Your Child Is Adapting Pay attention to how your child is coping with the changes and how these affect their routine. It’s important to take time to understand their reactions and concerns. Adjust Your Child’s Sleep Routine During the summer, it’s common to allow children to stay up later. However, to avoid difficulties in the first few weeks of school, start gradually moving bedtime earlier to establish a stable routine with at least 8 hours of sleep. If your child begins waking up early during the holidays, reward their effort with outings or other enjoyable activities. Spend Quality Time and Discuss the Upcoming School Year It’s essential to listen to what your children have to say and understand their concerns. Tailor your approach according to their age: for primary school children, emphasise the value of effort over academic results. For teenagers, involve them in setting their own goals and objectives. Set Limits on Unhealthy Habits Implement restrictions on activities such as playing video games for extended periods, excessive use of social media on mobile phones, and taking phones to bed. These habits can affect sleep and adaptation to school. Get to Know the Teachers and Communication Channels Familiarise yourself with the teachers and the school’s communication methods to avoid misunderstandings. Some schools may not respond to emails or have different policies for parent meetings. Understand the rules and engage actively. Schedule a Routine Medical Check-Up Before school starts, ensure your childs health is up to date. Many schools require updated vaccinations and may request documentation to prove necessary immunisations. Additionally, check vision and hearing, as these are crucial for academic performance. Also Take Care of Your Own Routine The return to school can bring additional responsibilities and require better time management. Therefore, make time for yourself to relax, spend time with other adults away from the childrens environment, and plan the first weeks tasks, such as meal preparations. This way, the transition back to routine will be smoother for everyone.

Source: Adobe Stock Author: Redaction Nowadays, financial education has become an essential skill, and it is critical that children learn early on about the value of money and the importance of conscious management. Starting this process doesn’t have to be complicated, and parents can play a crucial role in introducing financial concepts in a playful and accessible way. An effective approach is to integrate financial education into everyday life . Talk about what money is, how it is earned and the importance of saving it can be done naturally. For example, when doing family shopping, parents can explain how they make choices between products , considering price and quality, encouraging children to participate in decision making. Another valuable strategy is to encourage children to save. Offering them a piggy bank or savings account from an early age can help introduce the concept of savings. Parents can create small challenges such as saving to buy a desired toy, which not only teaches about the value of saving, but also about the satisfaction of achieving goals. In addition, it is important to talk about expenses and how to manage a budget. Parents can show children how to plan a small family budget for an event, such as a picnic or a birthday party, including expenses such as food, decor and activities. This practice not only teaches about financial management, but also about responsibility and organization. Children should also be introduced to the concept of investment in a simple way. Explaining how money can grow over time through savings and investments can spark their interest in the financial future. You can use practical examples, such as investing in a small business, selling lemonade or other products, to show how ideas can turn into profit. Finally, parents should promote an open discussion about money in order to encourage children to ask questions and express their opinions on financial issues. This communication helps to demystify money and create a healthy relationship with it from an early age. Investing in children’s financial education is paving the way for a safer and more conscious future. By adopting these simple practices on a daily basis, parents can help their children develop essential skills that will accompany them throughout their lives. With a solid foundation on financial education, children will be better prepared to face the financial challenges of the future. Related: Are you in your 20s? Write down these financial tips

The municipality had to risk, change, apply a different strategy than had been done in the past. Source: Freepik Author: Redaction According to the press office of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the diploma that changes the rules for awarding scholarships has already been sent to Diário da República, making it possible for more public higher education students. The goal, as indicated, is to promote success and reduce dropout rates in higher education. The new rules should come into force in the next school year and, according to the Ministry, the diploma will serve to adapt and strengthen scholarship programs and financial support to the real socio-economic situation of students, promoting success and reducing dropout in higher education. In this way, new eligibility criteria for student workers will be contemplated , which will be exempt from their income up to 14 times of the minimum guaranteed monthly salary, in order to be able to apply for scholarships. In addition, the allocation of the accommodation supplement will be available up to 50% of the limits set for each geographical area for displaced non-scholarship students, with per capita income between 23 and 28 times the Social Support Index (IAS). The diploma also includes extension measures to students of Professional Higher Technical Courses, who will be automatically awarded the scholarship, according to the criteria stipulated. Source: Freepik Author: Redaction According to a study by the University of Coimbra (UC), there has been an increase over the last eight years in the number of academic tourists arriving in Portugal to attend higher education. The study analysed students who came for periods of less than a year between the 2013/2014 and 2019/2020 academic years. According to the analysis, the number has grown by 46% in the last eight years, but there are regional asymmetries, with fewer international mobile students identified in higher education institutions further away from large urban centres. The research team points out that Portugal has experienced remarkable growth, fuelled by attributes such as quality education, security, multiculturalism, affordable living costs and political, economic and social stability. All of these criteria contributed to Portugal witnessing an increase in mobile students between 2013 and 2020, as Cláudia Seabra, a professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra (FLUC) and a researcher at the Centre for Geography and Spatial Planning Studies (CEGOT), points out. She adds: academic tourists in Portugal (i.e. students who are in the country for periods of less than 12 months) are predominantly from other European countries, including Spain, Italy, Poland and Germany, with 16 per cent, 12 per cent, 8 per cent and 7 per cent respectively. As for international students who have spent more than a year in Portugal, usually attending full cycles of studies, they come mainly from the countries of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Brazil is the country with the highest representation (38 per cent), followed by Cape Verde with 11 per cent, Angola with 10 per cent and Guinea-Bissau with 5 per cent of students. The authors of the study point out that this type of tourism is fundamental to the dynamics of Portuguese mobility, explaining that although it represents a small percentage of the total number of tourists visiting Portugal , its importance has increased, especially due to the average length of stay of students, which is longer than that of conventional tourists.
