Rural Tourism Enterprise (TER) in the ’Rural Accommodation’ modality. The concept of this project starts from the understanding of the place and the principles of traditional Azorean architecture on the island of Pico and intends, with its architectural design and materials to be applied, to respect the dominant characteristics of the region. From a contemporary perspective, it is intended to develop this concept with the greatest respect for the environment, biodiversity, energy efficiency, material savings, thermal/acoustic/social comfort, with a view to obtaining the best indicators of environmental, human and economic sustainability. It aims to offer a type of off-the-grid rural accommodation with energy, water and food self-sufficiency, promoting the sequestration of carbon emissions. Given its innovative character, it will make up for the lack of developments of this type and, at the same time, enhance tourism in rural areas on the island of Pico. As a result of this work, we will propose the development for HQE certification by CERWAY1, and EarthCheck2, with a view to promoting this development in line with the guidelines of the Tourism Planning Plan for the Autonomous Region of the Azores, approved by Regional Legislative Decree n.º 38/2008 /A, August 11th.
